Kim's Class

Kim's class is a small group preschool for ages 3-5.

Hello!  I am Kim Wright.  I have three kids in the Monticello School District and my husband works in the political science department at UAM.  I have a degree in elementary education, special education, and child development.   I taught in the California school system for several years  until my second child, Levi was born.  I have been a stay-at-home mom for ten years now.  Last Fall I decided to open a preschool in my home.  I had my youngest daughter at home still and wanted to see if I could pull this off.  I have considered this since my first child was old enough for preschool, but always had a younger one that needed my attention.  I advertised in the paper and got a group together.

During the first year my group of kids grew from word of mouth.   I created a preschool room in my dining room and slowly crowded out closets and other family spaces with supplies, toys, etc.  Our family decided that a larger home would allow me the space I needed to grow the preschool comfortably as well as have the space for family that we definately still needed.  We moved to a larger house and converted a room for exclusively the preschool.  This room has child size tables and chairs for 10 kids, many bulletin boards to display their work, my desk, files, computer, copy machine...everything that I need to run my class from home.  This room adjoins to a playroom and there are several other kid spaces throughout the house.  There are large windows in every child space around the house that make it easy to be viewed from the outside at all times. Parents are welcome at any point of the day unanounced.

I am licensed through the state of Arkansas.  I have my CPR training as well as all the criteria that needs to be met to maintain a license.  I am in the State Food and Nutrition program.  I serve breakfast, snack, and lunch at no additional cost.  The meals meet all of the nutrition guide lines.  I also accept vouchers as well as foster children.  I recently went through an "Arkansas Fit Kids" program that I plan to implement in my curriculum.  I am also a Level 1 rating on the new Arkansas "Better Beginings" program that supports "quality preschools" and holds me to standards  and requirements that help me continuously better the educational environment for my students.  I am awaiting a grant currently to enclose my playground through this program.

I have recently added Tuesday and Thursdays to my preschool week.  I am offering Monday thru Friday, 8-noon for $40/wk.  I will have a few spots open at the end of the month for this.  I do currently have a few spots open Tues and Thurs 8a-noon $20/wk.  There is no obligation to me if you decide this does not work for you.  I do hope that you will come by when the children are here so you can see what a wonderful group we have.  Please call to schedule a time.
